SMI Paper manufactures thermal paper rolls from base stock through to finished, labeled rolls at our plant in Penang, Malaysia. When you buy direct from the factory, you get full visibility into the supply chain — no intermediaries, no repackaged stock, no guesswork about what you're actually receiving.
Malaysia is an established paper converting hub with a skilled industrial workforce and reliable raw material supply chains. Our plant has operated here since our founding and holds ISO 9001:2015 certification across the full production process.
Every shipment leaves our plant with a commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and lot test reports. If you need additional documentation for your supply chain or compliance requirements, tell us and we'll provide it.

BPA/BPS-Free rolls for states that now require them
Washington State's rule under Safer Products for Washington (WAC 173-337-114) took effect on January 1, 2026 and prohibits the sale, distribution or manufacture of thermal receipt paper containing any intentionally added bisphenol — the first state ban of its kind. Ecology treats bisphenol above 200 ppm as evidence of intentional addition.
California doesn't ban it, but requires a Proposition 65 warning where BPA or BPS is present, and enforcement actions against retailers over thermal receipts have been rising. AB 1604, which would restrict bisphenols in California receipts, was still moving through the legislature as of mid-2026. Connecticut restricted BPA in receipt paper in 2011, and Illinois and Minnesota have their own limits. There is no federal rule — obligations are state by state.

Every lot is tested for dynamic and static sensitivity, whiteness, moisture, roll hardness and edge dust, and the results ship with the goods. We welcome third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas or Intertek, and customer audits at the plant.

What's your minimum order?
Contact us for current MOQ requirements for stock US sizes and custom-printed rolls. We'll tell you honestly if your volume doesn't work yet.
How long does delivery to the US take?
Production lead time plus sea freight to Los Angeles or Long Beach (West Coast), or Savannah and New York/Newark (East Coast). We quote realistic dates, not best-case ones.
Is your paper compliant with Washington's bisphenol ban?
Our BPA/BPS free grades are, and we supply test reports showing ppm results. Our BPA-free grades may still contain BPS, which the Washington rule covers — so tell us where you're selling and we'll spec accordingly.
Can you print our brand on the rolls and cartons?
Yes. Multi-color back print available, plus custom carton design, UPC/GTIN and neutral packaging.
Do you send free samples to the US?
Yes, Sample is free of charge. You only pay the freight cost, discuss with us.
